My name is Mirella Muroni. As a filmmaker and writer I love to restore the glory of what is seemingly insignificant by placing it in the spotlight with my camera or pen.
Being a black woman in a white society is an important influence in my work. I write authentic magic realistic stories about black women.
I am currently working on an Afro Futuristic feature film in which I combine the history of black women, science fiction and archival material.
I was born and raised in Amsterdam, the Netherlands and have my roots in the Caribbean (mom-Curacao) and Italy (dad-Sardegna). In 1995 I graduated from the Dutch Film Academy where I studied scriptwriting and directing for fiction.
Next to my artistic work, I am advisor at The Amsterdam Art Fund and member of the Supervisory Board at Music and Theater Festival Oerol.
